CHASING AND CAPTURING

[3] The ladder (SHICHO)
This capturing technique is a very famous one, called ladder (SHICHO in Japanese). After black 1 white stone can't escape... |
Nice, isn't ? |
Wrong direction...white is safe now. |
The point is: DON"T LET THE OPPONENT TO GET MORE THAN 2 LIBERTIES! After black 1 here white A is helpless as white will get 2 liberties (just the same as before...) |
Success for black! |
Failure here...so we must be very careful when attepting to capture with a SHICHO! |
For example here... |
...everything seemed to be ok but the white marked stone interfered the shicho so white can't be captured... |
When running is impossible white can play moves like 2, forcing black to capture, then playing once more. This is a positive way of thinking. |
